What Is XEOMIN®?
XEOMIN® is an injectable solution composed of a type of neurotoxin derived from botulinum toxin type A, similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and Jeuveau®. This treatment can create a more youthful and refreshed appearance by preventing muscle contractions that produce wrinkles and fine lines in specific facial areas.
At The Aesthetic Institute of Chicago, board-certified plastic surgeons Brian Braithwaite, MD and Lorri Cobbins, MD have effectively performed XEOMIN® treatments to address common signs of facial aging for many patients. This customized injectable treatment can ultimately help smooth wrinkles and provide significant aesthetic rejuvenation with beautiful results.
What Is XEOMIN® Used For?
XEOMIN® is FDA-approved and primarily used for medical and cosmetic purposes. Medically, it can treat muscle stiffness, helping reduce abnormal muscle contractions and pain. Cosmetically, XEOMIN® can be employed to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet by relaxing the underlying muscles. This nonsurgical procedure works by blocking the release of chemicals that cause these muscle contractions, offering patients a smoother, more youthful appearance.
What Does the XEOMIN® Treatment Involve?
Treatment typically involves a quick, minimally invasive session completed in our office. The process starts with a consultation to assess the specific areas needing treatment. During the procedure, small doses of XEOMIN® are injected directly into the targeted muscles using a fine needle. The number of injections depends on the treatment area and the severity of the issue. The entire session usually takes about 10-20 minutes, with no downtime required, often allowing patients to resume normal activities immediately.
What Are Common Side Effects of XEOMIN®?
While XEOMIN® can cause side effects, these are generally mild and temporary, often resolving on their own. Common reactions at the injection site may include swelling or redness, which should gradually subside in the days following treatment. Most patients do not experience long-lasting effects after XEOMIN® treatment. Although rare, additional side effects may include muscle weakness, eyelid drooping or swelling, headaches, dry mouth, and neck pain.
How Long Does XEOMIN® Last?
Results are usually visible within a few days and often last between three to four months, depending on the individual. The duration can vary based on a patient’s muscle activity, the area treated, and the dose administered. Occasional follow-up treatments can help maintain the desired effects, as the muscle activity will gradually return to normal as the neurotoxin wears off. Over time, some patients may find that the intervals between treatments can be extended while still achieving the same aesthetic or therapeutic results.
How Much Does XEOMIN® Cost?
The cost of XEOMIN® treatments can vary depending on several factors, including:
- The expertise of the practitioner
- The number of areas being treated
- The location of the areas being treated
- The extent of your concerns
Medical applications of XEOMIN® for conditions like cervical dystonia or others may be at least partially covered by some medical insurance plans; however, most medical insurance policies will not cover XEOMIN® when the treatment is performed for cosmetic benefits.
