What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, an FDA-approved protein that reduces muscle activity and dynamic skin wrinkling. Expert use of BOTOX® Cosmetic requires an in-depth understanding of facial anatomy, muscle activity, and the product itself. In our office, Dr. Brian Braithwaite and Dr. Lorri Cobbins—our board-certified plastic surgeons—freshly mix all the BOTOX® Cosmetic injections themselves, and only our doctors inject the product. We have yet to encounter a less than satisfied BOTOX® Cosmetic patient in our practice.

What are the benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® injections temporarily reduce or eliminate vertical frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead creases, crow’s feet near the outer eyes, visible bands in the neck, and other less common facial concerns. BOTOX® injections can also be used to treat migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and certain muscle spasm conditions.
Who is a good candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Candidates for BOTOX® Cosmetic injections typically seek aesthetic enhancements to diminish signs of facial wrinkles, particularly around the eyes and forehead. This treatment can often be an ideal alternative for individuals who may not need surgical enhancements to achieve their goals, as well as those who would simply like to avoid invasive surgery, if possible. With that in mind, candidates should understand that the results of BOTOX® Cosmetic are temporary, typically lasting about three to four months. Additional treatment sessions can help many patients maintain the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic once they begin to fade. Ideal candidates should also be in good general health and have realistic expectations about the outcomes BOTOX® Cosmetic can produce. Individuals with underlying nerve or muscle disorders, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding, may not be suitable for this treatment.
To determine if you are a good candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic, you will meet with one of our doctors during your consultation. After understanding your goals and desires, your doctor will carefully examine your facial regions. If you are an ideal candidate, they will devise an individualized treatment plan and explain it to you.
What are BOTOX® Cosmetic injections like?
If you elect to proceed with treatment, our doctors will inject BOTOX® Cosmetic with a very small needle. We offer topical anesthetic cream to minimize any discomfort during the injections. Bruising is rare. The full effects of BOTOX® injections can take up to two weeks to set in, and the benefits should last at least three to four months. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise just after treatment but patients may drive and return to work immediately.

How long does BOTOX® Cosmetic last?
Every patient’s experience is unique, and BOTOX® Cosmetic may last a different amount of time for you than for someone who has been treated many times before. Most individuals see about three to four months of benefits, although repeated treatment can lead to longer-lasting outcomes. If you like the results of BOTOX® Cosmetic, routine injections can be used to extend the length of your result.
How much does BOTOX® Cosmetic cost?
The price of BOTOX® Cosmetic will depend on the amount you need to achieve your goals. According to patient reviews on RealSelf.com, the average cost of BOTOX® Cosmetic is $550. Your cost will be determined by the number of areas you address and the complexity of the treatment plan. We will discuss the price with you prior to your procedure so you can make a well-informed decision about your cosmetic goals. If you would prefer to make monthly installments rather than pay one lump sum, we work with CareCredit®, a reputable plastic surgery financing agency. We can discuss this option with you during your appointment if it interests you.
What other injectables do you offer?
We offer a comprehensive selection of dermal fillers and cosmetic injectables to suit your aesthetic goals. In addition to BOTOX® Cosmetic, our practice performs injections of JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, and VOLUMA® and multiple other dermal fillers. Talk to us about your concerns and we will develop a treatment plan that can optimize your outcome.
Additional BOTOX® Cosmetic Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I receive BOTOX® Cosmetic injections?
As each patient’s treatment plan is personalized to their own aesthetic needs and goals, the frequency of BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can vary. Some patients may find that three to four sessions a year works for them, while others may only need two treatments a year to maintain their desired results. Patients with more severe concerns, such as deep wrinkles, may require more injections than those with faint frown lines and other mild signs of aging.
Are there any side effects to BOTOX® Cosmetic injections?
Side effects following BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are typically minor and gradually subside within hours or by the end of the day. Slight bruising, swelling, tenderness, and redness are common at the injection site. Many patients find that visible side effects can be covered by make-up until they subside.
What happens if I miss a BOTOX® Cosmetic injections appointment?
To maintain results, patients may be advised to return for follow-up BOTOX® Cosmetic injections every three months. Dr. Braithwaite and Dr. Cobbins understand that situations may arise where a patient intentionally or unintentionally misses their appointment. Missing a BOTOX® Cosmetic session does not usually cause significant issues beyond delaying the benefits of treatment. Results typically last for three to four months, with effects gradually wearing off, giving patients a little room to work with to reschedule their appointment.
