Recovery from Arm Lift Surgery
Arm lift surgery, or brachioplasty, is performed by Dr. Lorri Cobbins and Dr. Brian Braithwaite as an outpatient procedure, meaning patients can generally return to their homes (with the aid of a friend or family member) following their surgery. For the first day or two after surgery there will generally be some discomfort in the treatment area, but this can often be diminished with pain medication, and we have found that most of our patients are back to work within two to three days.
For the following three to four weeks, a compression garment must be worn to help control swelling and decrease the risk of fluid accumulation. Additionally, patients should not lift anything greater than ten pounds for several days following surgery, however, light exercise such as walking on the treadmill or riding a stationary bike is often permissible after about one week.
Once cleared by Drs. Braithwaite or Cobbins to resume all activities, it is important for patients to continue to watch their diet, maintain a healthy weight and exercise regularly. The combination of these resolutions will definitely increase the potential for long-term success of brachioplasty results.
